Dynamic Ocean Consulting Ltd is a boutique environmental consulting firm based in Port Moody, British Columbia (BC). We are a group of multi-disciplinary applied scientists that bridge the realms of regulatory and academic applied scientists, with a strong focus on the marine environment. Our foundation is built upon the belief for the inclusion of western and Indigenous/Inuit sciences into all aspects of the regulatory life cycle, to support the understanding of existing conditions and effects assessments. Spatially we primarily work in BC and Nunavut, with a keen interest for expansion to territories and provinces with a coastline.

About You

The successful candidate will have a functional understanding of patterns and processes in marine coastal habitats of BC and express an interest to learn new things while participating in a team-oriented setting. You will have an undergraduate degree in geography, natural resource management, biology, or another relevant field that includes a GIS specialization.  

Position Summary 

We are seeking a Junior Geospatial Analyst to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early career professional (one to three years of experience) who is eager to grow their skills in a collaborative, environmentally focused consulting company. Candidates with education and experience in marine biology are encouraged to apply, as we value dynamic and diverse skill sets.    

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the collection, management, and quality control of spatial data. 

  • Support the production of high-quality maps and figures for client-facing deliverables and regulatory submissions.  

  • Conduct open-source spatial dataset searches, digitize relevant features, and clean large marine datasets to support analysis and reporting.  

  • Work with our technical marine team to integrate Geographic Information System (GIS) into field planning, regulatory reporting, and data interpretation. 

  • Assist in developing and maintaining spatial data storage systems.  

Qualifications and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Geomatics, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline with a focus on GIS.  

  • One to three years of experience working with GIS programs (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or similar) in an academic and/or professional setting. 

  • Solid understanding of geodatabase management, data quality control, and spatial file types.  

  • Proficiency in spatial data visualization, digitization, analysis, and map production.  

  • Familiarity with spatial referencing challenges in the natural resource sector such as selecting appropriate coordinate systems, managing datum transformations, and working with multi-scale datasets.  

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce clean, accurate visuals and outputs  

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills  

Asset Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated experience using ModelBuilder and/or Python to automate workflows. 

  • Ability to think long-term about spatial data systems, reproducibility, and data storage for multi-year projects.  

  • Experience supporting field data collection and integrating field data into spatial workflows. 

  • Familiarity with regulatory processes and environmental permitting in BC and/or Nunavut. 

  • Basic marine biology knowledge, especially related to BC’s coast. 

Work Location and Benefits 

Our office is based in Port Moody. We offer a hybrid work opportunity with an expectation of at least three days a week in our office.

Compensation  

The salary range for this position is between $60,000 to $68,000 and will be based on your unique qualifications and experience.
