Dynamic Ocean Consulting Ltd is a boutique environmental consulting firm based in Port Moody, British Columbia (BC). We are a group of multi-disciplinary applied scientists that bridge the realms of regulatory and academic applied scientists, with a strong focus on the marine environment. Our foundation is built upon the belief for the inclusion of western and Indigenous/Inuit sciences into all aspects of the regulatory life cycle, to support the understanding of existing conditions and effects assessments. About You

The successful candidate will have the ability to work in a team environment and to function independently. Your personal and professional traits will allow you to work effectively in a multi-facetted environment and you have a keen interest to grow and develop with the company. 

The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of patterns and processes in marine coastal habitats of BC and express an interest to learn new things while participating in a team-oriented setting. You will have an undergraduate degree in geography, natural resource management, biology, or another relevant field that includes a GIS specialization. 

Position Summary 

We are seeking an Intermediate Geospatial Analyst to join our growing team. This role is ideal for an a professional with 3-5 years experience who is confident in their geospatial skill set and looking to take the next step in a collaborative, environmentally focused consulting company. You will play a key role in supporting and advancing spatial data management, analysis, and visualization for projects in coastal and marine environments. Candidates with education and experience in marine biology are encouraged to apply. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, management, and quality control of spatial data for a variety of marine permitting projects in BC and Nunavut. 

  • Develop high-quality maps, figures, and spatial deliverables for technical reports, environmental assessments, and regulatory submissions. 

  • Source, clean, and convert spatial data from a variety of sources, including GPS field data, feature digitization, and open data portals. 

  • Collaborate with the technical marine team on strategies to integrate GIS into field planning. 

  • Maintain and optimize the current spatial data systems to support long-term project planning and ensure reproducibility and data integrity.  

  • Support the development and implementation of GIS Best Practices and documentation for internal and client-facing projects.  

  • Mentor and support junior staff. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Geomatics, Natural Resources Management, or a related field. 

  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience working with GIS programs (e.g. ArcGIS Pro, QGIS) in a professional setting. 

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering innovation GIS solutions. 

  • Demonstrated experience in the design and maintenance of spatial data systems, metadata standards, and data quality assurance processes to support multi-year projects.  

  • Experience programming or scripting to automate workflows (e.g., Python, ArcPy, SQL). 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills. 

  • Solid understanding of how to work with and convert between a variety of geospatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GDBs, raster/DEMs, dwg files, kml). 

  • Experience dealing with spatial referencing systems relevant to the natural resource sector, including managing datum transformations when working with multi-scale datasets.

Asset Qualifications 

  • Post-graduate degree in geomatics or another related discipline (MSc, graduate certificate).  

  • Demonstrated experience with satellite data, airborne LiDAR processing, drone imagery processing, and remote sensing tools.  

  • Prior experience in a consulting environment.  

  • Familiarity with environmental permitting and regulatory processes in BC and/or Nunavut. 

  • Background in marine biology.  

Work Location and Benefits 

Our office is based in Port Moody. We offer a hybrid work opportunity with an expectation of at least three days a week in our office.

Compensation  

The salary range for this position is between $68,000 to $75,000 and will be based on your unique qualifications and experience.
