Hydrophone Calibration

We can support the rental of equipment you require for ‘field calibration’ of your hydrophone for times this is required by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). We offer a rental of a pistonphone and sound level meter. The pistonphone is coupled to the hydrophone and plays a tone of known frequency (250 Hz) and known amplitude (e.g., 114 dB), and this is then recorded and measured on the hydrophone to confirm the levels recorded by the hydrophone.

A calibrated sound level meter is also included in our calibration package to confirm the output of the pistonphone in the field and also to measure the sound pressure level within the coupler.
